Back in Session

The fact that I don’t write in this on a regular basis is not important.  What is important is the fact that I still write in it.

…moving on.

School starts up again today.  Huzzah….wait, ummm, not really.  I wish I had more of a break to do some of the things that I wanted to do but didn’t really get a chance to. I probably didn’t get a chance too cause the summer and nice weather and friends were distracting me from doing it…stupid friends.  Maybe now that I am back to the grime and concrete of organized learning I will find my motivation to start up working on things again.

Right now I am at work, doing design related things like I usually do.  As I know you probably aren’t questioning to yourself right now how I possibly could be writing this while at work, I will tell you anyways.  I design things on a computer, which in turn requires that I have a computer to design things on.  The piece of roman technology that was given to me does not meet the description of such; and I don’t care what anyone else says.  Seriously, I am working on a Celeron 1.0ghz, with two CRT monitors that are probably older than I am.All in all, this computer was considered lame 6 years ago…and I am working on it.

I am trying to print some mockups to show before everything gets finalized for print.  My files amount to a grand total of 20mb worth of “1″s and “0″s.  In today’s world that is nothing for a computer, much less a laser printer hardwired into the network; yet here I stand, waiting for the better part of 20 minutes now for these stupid files to print.

I think I am gonna hit up sushi for lunch…that will make me feel better.

Disturbed Anyone?

So today is Friday (really Saturday is you really want to be picky about it) and I just recently got back from the movie theater.  Unlike everyone else at the movie theater tonight, I was not going to see a human spider fight crime and evil.  No instead we went to go see Disturbia.  I am not much for intense, jumpy thriller movies but this is a strong recommendation in  my book if there ever has been one.  The story is good, I never felt that one part dragged on for too long, and to top it all off, there is one incredibly hot actress playing the role of the neighbor.

Aside from that my Friday was pretty uneventful.  I ended up staying the night at Sarah’s last night (no intention of doing so whatsoever ) but it was all good cause I was able to drive Sarah to work at 8.  I then went home and began to clean up the kitchen a bit, and also make some more progress on a few of the side projects I am currently doing.  At 1, I headed back to school to help Sarah film some stuff in the green-screen room and afterwards capture it so she would work on it over the weekend.

Then we basically watched television, took a nap, and I screwed around on the laptop that I am now typing on (Sarah’s Mac) so I can get a greater understanding of the OSX world before a up-and-coming Mac purchase of my own.

Thinking about it, it is really pretty sad that this is what our Friday consisted of.  A good point was made that this happens because we really don’t have time to breathe during the week so come friday we subconciously just let ourselves go and settle to facing the reprocussions of our “laziness” later on.

I don’t know why it bugs  be so much but it does.  I mean, it’s a Friday and we really have nothing better to do with our time than take naps and watch episode upon episode of DVD/Torrent television show?  Out of working with the Wolves, there is one element that I miss the most, and that is the sense of what adult fun is really like.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love “kid fun” if you will; the LANs that  I host have probably been some of the best times of my life, but being down at the bar in NBA city and actively participating in mature conversations about politics, money, business, and design with people that would laugh in disbelief if I told them my actual age, it felt damn good.

I really have no idea where I was going with this and in the long run it probably is going to be a lot of gibberish.  The main purpose of this post from the start was to occupy my time so I wouldn’t have to become witness to myself going to bed at 12:30 on a Friday.  I have succeed in that since it is now 1:30 and I am finally ready to give into the temptation to sleep, yet the fact that I have to do this still doesn’t sit well in my stomach.

Moral of the story: I was gonna say that I just wish I was older, or 21 for that matter; but even that isn’t it…so take from it what you will.  Gnite.

American History X

I am about to watch American History X for the first time ever. I have always wanted to see it but never really gotten the chance. That changed last week when it was on TV but Sarah insisted that we watch something else because if you are going to watch American History X, you need to watch the real American History X….no editing content for TV. I agree with that because I have heard things about this movie and “curb bashing” in particular. It should be a fun night, finally gonna chill with all the roomies over here in 518, Sarah is cutting up some fresh pineapple, and it is now officially the weekend.

I am looking forward to it.

15 minutes to write before class

I have come to determine that small quick posts are much better than my previous style of long posts that I really can’t even imagine people read through their entirety.

Sticking with this clause of action, I will now write a post.

So yesterday I was just screwing around in my Digg profile when I came across an article that I had totally forgotten about.  It suggests a way to search websites for index files of various mp3s that people have uploaded for private use.  The process works as followed…

Type this into the google search engine, changing the band name to whatever you want:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “BAND NAME HERE”

It may find a bit of picking and choosing, but after a few attempts you should find an index site with the song you want.  Right-click and save link as….BAM!

Design related things

So as some of you know and others are about to know with the reading of this post, I am now officially a designer at The Carney Group.  Pay starts at 10 an hour with around 16-20 hours a week.  To begin with I don’t even work at the firm itself but am onsite each day with one of our biggest clients, PRI (Public Radio International).  Located across the street from the Target Center in the Butcher Center,  it should work well with my current school schedule.

Aside from that I have 3 freelance jobs that I am trying to finish up, one of which will more than likely pay anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000.  Am I excited? You bet your ass I am.  Creative Suite 3 will soon officially be mine! (officially as in, no longer haxxed)

On a bad note, I got a flat tire today by running over a nail while passing a construction site.  Second flat tire in the past month, rotten luck if you ask me.  With that I need to leave cause my dad is meeting me to help me change it since I don’t really have a working jack at my disposal.

What a comeback post!

For the sake of my fingers and this blog, the last 5 months of my life didn’t exist.  Onward, towards the future!

Did you know that McDonalds now has a machine that automatically pours drinks pertaining to what i punched in at the register.  We are basically paying these people to stand around and watch a machine do the work that they could do.  Don’t flood me with that, “it saves money” bullshit either.  Sigh, this is what our world is coming to…

**Written last week 12/29/06**

Yes that is right folks, Winter Break has offically began. Finals went alright other than the all nighter that I had to pull for my Advanced Scripting final, which I think turned out pretty bad ass. The functionality of the site could still use some work but the design I think was the strongest of the class, I will probably use it as a project to work on to keep my mind from wandering too far from the knowledge tree as I progress through these next 3 weeks. So I am currently writing this at the Timberwolves management office because the work that I was assigned is now finished and my boss is in a meeting so I can’t go and ask him what else he wants me to do. I have to say, the enviornment here is cool, but at the same time I feel somewhat of an outcast simply because the people I am surrounded with are freaks about the sport of basketball, whereas I am simply just a fan. I really wish they would push me a bit more but at the same time I understand why they’re not, because I am an intern, and that title makes people uneasy unloading important work onto you for the sake that it might not get done. Oh well, I guess I really can’t complain because if I did walk in and they threw 8 hours of work at me I wouldn’t be able be writing this post like I currently am.

It was actually kind of amussing the other day while I was working late. The section that sits across from mine (yeah, thats right I have my own cube….kind of a sad and cool thought at the same time) is where we have all of our PR people. There job usually consists of talking to our season ticket holders and making sure that they are enjoying their time while at the Target Center. These two guys were sitting next to each other both talking on the phone to customers in very professional manners, but what do I notice? They are playing Mini Golf against each other through yahoo games, and trash talking each other through Word documents. That’s friggin cool.
